Hugh Grant, the British Actor, is selling his original Andy Warhol painting of Elizabeth Taylor.
The estimate is a whopping $25 - $35m.
Not a bad return for Hugh...he paid $3.5m just 6 years ago.
The piece’s high profile provenance is expected to further fan the flames of the Andy Warhol frenzy.
Andy Warhol is generally regarded as on of the most influential artists of the twentieth century.
His expression “famous for 15 minutes” is now part of everyday jargon.
The US Post even issued an Andy Warhol postage stamp that quickly sold out.
Warhol’s market has seen an electrifying development in the last few years.
In May 2007 Christies held an auction of Post War and Contemporary Art. It realized over $384m. Out of 78 lots, 74 sold.
The belle of the ball was Warhol’s ‘Green Car Crash’ which sold for a cool $71.7m. The price set a world record for a Warhol.
The previous best price was $17m. It effectively meant that the record for a Warhol quadrupled overnight.

The art world is already buzzing about Christies’ sale on November 13th. One of Warhol’s great pieces is on the Auction block.
And on an even more positive note, one thing that should help future Warhol prices is that his estate is finally running out of pictures to sell.
When Andy Warhol died there were approximately 4,100 paintings plus numerous prints in his estate. A large number were given to the Andy Warhol Museum the others have gradually been sold off to museums, collectors and dealers.
There is not a bottomless pit or an infinite supply.
There will soon be a squeeze on the supply of Warhol’s. The recent prices at auction indicate it is already happening.
