King Carol II of Romania was also known as ‘The Playboy King'...his private life was scandalous and it outraged even the most loyal partisans of the monarchy.
Talk of illegitimate children and secret marriages were rife until his exile in 1940.
In a train laden with Royal Treasure, King Carol left Romania. The train contained paintings by Old Masters...there were Titians...Rubens...even Rembrandts.
There were also hundreds of other priceless canvasses...jewels...even the armour that had decorated the walls of the Royal Palaces.
And of course...King Carol's prized stamp collection...one of the world's most valuable at the time.
A death squad of Iron Guard Legionnaires (partly financed by the Nazis) fired fiercely on the Royal Train near the Yugoslavian border, but failed to stop it. The King and his mistress lay on the floor and escaped injury from the bullets.
Two years ago one of King Carol's stamps turned up at a London auction and sold for £57,960 ($115,000)... smashing the Stanley Gibbons Catalogue Price at the time. We've since adjusted the Catalogue Price to reflect this.
This is a super rare stamp that is rarely available. We've only handled two in 20 years.
It is considered to be one of the rarest High Value stamps of the entire George V reign...quite probably the rarest stamp of Malaya.
Why so rare?
It has a face value of $500...a heck of a lot of money when it was issued in 1912, and probably the reason why it is rare today...few people bought them back in 1912...few people could afford to.
Remember we've only handled two examples in the last 20 years.
One of which we have in stock today. You can view it on the link below:
One of only two we have handled in 20 years
Rare, undervalued and available...now
And here is the deal...our experts have priced this stamp lower than a similar example sold for in auction more than 2 years ago.
Remember, we know what the market is willing to pay for this stamp...someone happily paid £57,960 ($115,000) for a similar example...
That was more than 2 years ago...and the market has moved on since then.
How can we afford to offer it at this price?
It's all about leaving a little for the next man...and knowing you will be back again in the future to purchase from us again.
