Unique: The Countdown to War

It is extremely rare to find such an important document.

It really is a one-off. If you are interested in modern history then this is as good as it gets.

It represents the Holy Trinity of collectible investment...

History in the making...fantastic provenance...and a great story.

The provenance is unbeatable: This document was recently displayed at the National Army Museum in London to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Falklands War.

The Head of Archives at the museum describes this document as one:

“Which, almost by accident, survive down the years and evoke a response from later generations because of the momentous events with which they are associated”.

Exactly why we recommend it for investment today...

Paul Fraser, our resident expert on all things historic, says “It’s a huge piece. Just think: how much could it will be worth in 20-50 years? I think it’s priceless”.

On 19th March 1982, the Argentinians landed at Leith, South Georgia, in the Falkland Islands.

The initial invasion was considered by Argentina as the re-occupation of its own territory.

The British Government was taken completely by surprise.

The British considered it an invasion of a British Overseas Territory.

The Falklands War was about to begin.

On 20th March 1982 Rex Hunt, the British Governor of the Falkland Islands, acted.

Members of the British Antarctic Survey were given the task of confronting the Argentinians at Leith, South Georgia.

They were already in the area to visit whaling stations and complete some maintenance work at Leith.

On arrival they found their depot had been ransacked, the Argentine flag flying, and ‘a number of personnel’ were there.

They alerted the authorities by radio and awaited a reply.

At 5.30 am they received a radio message from the Governor of The Falkland Islands. They were instructed to find a pen & paper to write down the message.

Over the radio, the Governor dictated the following note with the instruction to hand it to the Argentine invaders.

The letter is a single page written in green ballpoint pen on lightweight paper, with one or two barely discernable stains, presumably arising from having been handled during negotiations with the Argentine party.

It is without doubt the most important document relating to the Falklands War in private hands.

"YOU MUST REMOVE THE ARGENTINE FLAG FROM LEITH"

This is the note that began the countdown to the Falklands War...

The British Party took the note aboard the Argentine ship ‘Bahia Buen Suceso’ and presented it to the Captain.

Neil Shaw was a member of the British Party:

“We took the note to the ship and read it to an interpreter, who read it to the Captain. They took the note and handed it back to us, dismissing it quite quickly”.

And then:

“They said, ‘If you’d like to come in for a meal and a drink, you’re welcome, but we’re not interested in this (the letter)”.

An historical document with a great story.

“NO MILITARY ‘PERSONELL’ ARE ALLOWED
TO LAND IN SOUTH GEORGIA”

The Argentine troops landed on 2nd April and the members of the British Antarctic Survey were taken captive.

So began the Falkland Islands War.

This letter, the British response to Argentine aggression, marked the countdown to the Falklands conflict and perhaps the least expected war in history.

We’ve never seen anything like it.

War memorabilia remains one of the most popular areas of collecting.

As the Head of Archives at the National War Museum explained, they:

…evoke a response from later generations because of the momentous events with which they are associated…

This letter represents the countdown to the Falklands War...it is an absolutely unique item.

Our very own expert describes it as 'priceless'...

It was dictated by the Governor at the time...read, and dismissed by the Captain of the Argentine ship.

What must have been going through their minds? It was new territory for both of them.

“NO FIREARMS TO BE TAKEN ASHORE”

Only one thing is for sure. It’s remarkable the letter has survived and is available for sale today.

Countdowns to War are very scarce...and extremely valuable. After all...we’re talking about history in the making.

The price is £29,950 ($62,895). It’s unique. You simply won’t find another. It is THE Countdown to the Falklands War.

And much, much more...In effect this letter was the saving grace of the Thatcher era. Without this letter it’s debatable whether Maggie would have clung to power.

Quite simply: It’s your chance to own the finest historical document relating to the Falklands War and all that represents to the history of modern Britain.

Don’t miss out.
