Fraser's Top 30 Selling Autographs Index Update – September 2008
What's hot in the autograph market now...
Dear Reader,
What a horrible year...
Surely, some good news must be around the corner. It is difficult to remain resilient and rational in times like this.
After losing my shirt on the stock market over the past month, it is a welcome relief to immerse myself in the world of autographs for a while and see who is going up in the world... or down.

We have a new Number 1...
After two months at the top spot, Madonna finds herself ousted by Angelina Jolie. Now this does not mean that Angelina Jolie is more desirable (as a signature I mean).
What it means is that Angelina Jolie signatures are both sought after and readily available resulting in higher volumes of sales. Madonna signatures, although not particularly rare, are harder to source.
Signatures of Heath Ledger and Johhny Depp remain in hot pursuit of their female rivals in Number 3 and 4, respectively.
New Entries
There is only one new entry this month:
Uma Thurman (In at No.17)
Uma Thurman rose to fame following her role in the cult classic "Pulp Fiction". At 6ft tall, it is no surprise that her career began at the age of 15 as a fashion model.
Despite this, she has always suffered from insecurity about her appearance. The individual components of her beauty are not attractive and somewhat angular, yet, when combined, they create a work of art.
Her distinctive and fascinating appearance compels us to watch her on screen. Without these unique features, she would just be another talented actress struggling to make ends meet.
We have a nice selection of Uma Thurman signed photographs from some of her most memorable performances including "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill".

Signatures on top of the world
The biggest riser in the month was Edmund Hillary.
On 29 May 1953, Edmund Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer, Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Sir Edmund died in January this year at the ripe old age of 88, 55 years after reaching the summit of the World. It is no surprise to see a rise of interest in the New Zealander mountaineer at this time.
I own a signed photograph of Edmund Hillary as part of my "First of..." collection. What I love most about this collection is that history never forgets the people who achieve great things first.
I know that 100 years from now, we will still remember those "great firsts" and that is what I believe makes such items a great long term investment and family heirloom.
Surprisingly, you can still pick up a signed photograph of Sir Edmund Hillary at an easily accessible price...

Through autograph collecting, we are able to own a piece of things which hold sentimental meaning to us as individuals. We are also able to recapture part of our history.
The first step towards getting pleasure from the hobby of autograph collecting requires you to think about what is most dear to you. What are you passionate about?
From this, you should then be able to determine what autographs you would most like to own. Once you have done this, create a list of all those that you would like to add to your collection and send it to Adrian Roose on:
