Today I would like to introduce to you the TOP 30 selling autographs over the past year.

These are the autographs that we have sold most of in quantity over a 12-month period.

Every month, from now on, we will update this index to show the trends in the market and changes in demand that we experience.

So, you can keep track of your favourite celebrities and their popularity rating. Find out if your favourite makes it into the top 30.

Some of these items make great investments by virtue of their perpetual popularity and hence demand forcing prices upwards.

This is a bit like momentum investing whereby simply by following the crowd, you can make money. It is an obvious investment. Demand is high, supply is limited, prices rise...

It is as simple as that...

I wouldn't recommend all of the items appearing in the top 30 as an investment but all of them are fascinating individuals in their own right.

As you would expect, film and TV personalities are the most represented group making up 57% of the index. The world loves fame after all and signatures are a special way of getting closer to the stars you adore. One of our customers summed it up well:

Madonna Tops the Charts Again

Madonna with 13 Number 1 hits in the UK charts, the most of any female performer, is currently the most collected autograph in the world.

Madonna celebrated her 50th birthday on 16th August but defied her age with her "Sticky and Sweet" world tour this year.

According to the January 2006 issue of U.K. magazine Record Collector, she was No. 1 in a list of "100 Most Collectible Divas."

An investment vehicle has even been set up to capitalise on the investment potential from Madonna memorabilia. Marquee Capital owns over 150 Madonna memorabilia items and states on its website that selected Madonna items have increased in value by up to 733% in the past few years.

Her longevity is the secret to the investment potential. She has successfully continually reinvented herself ensuring she remains on top. No one else can match her dedication and work ethic. Marquee Capital goes on to say:

"Many of the people who admire her now will be reaching the peak of their wealth in the next 10 years".

Death of a star

A year ago, Heath Ledger would not have even appeared in our top 100 selling autographs...

He is now Number 3 in the chart.

The sudden death of Heath Ledger on 22 January 2008 shocked the world.

Nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for his role in the film "Brokeback Mountain"...

A star still in his relative prime, who was only just beginning to gain the recognition he deserved as an actor, gone forever.

Sound familiar?

James Dean is one of the most collected signatures in the World but his signature is hard to come by. A signed photo of the rebel without a cause will set you back over £10,000.

Heath Ledger fans seek a piece of their departed legend thus reducing availability in the market. Sadly, he won't be signing anymore.

The Most Famous Politician Ever

The highest historical figure in the list is Winston Churchill at No 7. He is a "must have" for every collector and investor in historical signatures.

Names that are instantly recognisable in history have always appreciated in value the most...

Our Missing Heroes

There are some personalities missing from the list that are in higher demand. The fact is they are so rare that we simply don't handle enough of them to sell them in any quantity.

Examples of missing personalities, which would make it in the top 30 if we could source enough of them, would include Henry VIII, Paul McCartney and Marilyn Monroe.
