If you get in before June 2008
The author of over a dozen major novels, a large number of short stories, three Christmas themed stories, a handful of plays and several non-fiction books...
There was an auction this month.
It was the first auction of Charles Dickens' memorabilia in 35 years. The lots sold for over £2m ($4m).
With returns like that you can't help but wonder why it has been 35 years since the last auction of Dickens' memorabilia.
The answer is simple.
Rarity. Dickens memorabilia is hard to come by.
It's why you should invest
before June 2008.
In June 2008 the desk & chair that he used to write the majority of his famous novels are also going to auction.
They are set to sell for £80,000 ($160,000). It may seem like a huge figure but we actually expect them to sell for much more.
After all, this is the desk & chair where he composed many of his world famous novels, quill in hand, ink at the ready.
This month's £2m auction has set the tone for Dickens memorabilia. The auction in June will generate further publicity and awareness of Dickens memorabilia.
Before you know it'll be mid summer and I predict I will be writing to you again telling you how the Dickens desk & chair sold at well above the £80,000 estimate.
We've seen this happen with other undervalued 'celebrities'.
You see, the publicity attached to unique items in auctions is huge.
This isn't by accident. Auction houses employ vast publicity machines to ensure the public know about their latest offerings.
They have members of staff and consultants to pump out media releases in the hope the public pick up on them.
Unique items like Dickens' desk & chair generate publicity.
And subsequently other quality items associated with Dickens have the potential for great returns.
The forthcoming auction publicity will be a catalyst for this market
So the trick is to see what is available prior to June 2008.
After all, the Dickens name will never be forgotten.
His work will always be an important part of our literary history.
Children will continue to learn about him at school, university lecturers will carry on advising students to read his novels, adults will dip in and out of his books.
In years to come your great grandchildren will still be reading Charles Dickens stories at school.
Much the same as you and I did... and your parents before you.
His work has been described as 'timeless' and today I am describing him as a man who can serve you well... not only as a highly sought after and rewarding collectable... but also as a solid investment for the future.
Investing in rare signed documents is a proven way to make money. Predicting the next 'big thing' is the tricky part.
Charles Dickens memorabilia has everything we look for.
And we expect the market to start moving in June 2008. So you need to get involved pretty quick.
