This was one of our most popular offers when we first made it 10 months ago.

We only had one item available, but we could have sold it many times over.

Naturally, when we have duplicate orders like that we know we have a guaranteed interest. So we try to find other examples.

But the thing is... these items are valuable for a very good reason...

They are rare.

That means we don't have hundreds on tap in an archive.

And it's not like Wal-Mart or Tesco - I can't simply phone a wholesaler and order a dozen more to meet demand.

Instead we have to be patient and wait for an opportunity to purchase.

It's why it's taken us a full 10 months to find two more item of suitable quality.

Once these are sold I imagine it will be even longer before we are able to make this offer again.

Family heirlooms

Both have been signed by the sporting great... Babe Ruth.

He transformed the game of baseball.

He's also one of our top collectables of the past year.

I can't think of a better family heirloom for a baseball fan.

Babe Ruth was the first baseball player in history to hit 60 home runs in one season.

His total of 714 home runs at retirement was a record that stood for 39 years.

His .342 lifetime batting average is the tenth highest in baseball history.

He led the league in 'home runs during a season' twelve times.

And in 1936 he became one of the first five players elected to the Baseball hall of Fame. In 1998 he was voted Number One on The Sporting News 100 greatest players

He was the first true American sports celebrity superstar, ranked the third greatest US athlete in a 1999 ESPN poll, only beaten by Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali.

Beyond the statistics Babe Ruth also changed baseball itself. The popularity of the game exploded in the 1920s, largely down to him.

If you are a baseball fan then you will appreciate the relevance, and value, of any item attached to the Babe Ruth name.
