1862 (MY 8) entire from Calcutta to London, endorsed 'Per Str Simla via Marseilles', franked by 1856-64 8a carmine, tied by exceptional strike of 'CALCUTTA / 1' duplex with boxed 'INDIA / PAID' and London arrival cds (JU 11) alongside. The reverse with blue Gillanders, Arbuthnot & Co forwarding agent cachet on upper flap, which would open for display. A fine single franking. [The addressee, Sir John Peter Grant KCB, served as Lieutenant-General of Bengal from 1859-62.]
